CHINCHILLA · FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Which agent fits my task?
Type your task in a few words — for example “review a lease” or “write a complaint to a shop” — and I will show matching agents from the catalog. The catalog also has search and filters by section. If the task spans several areas, the “AI Orchestra” coordinator agent puts together a team of specialists.
Is it really free?
Yes. All ready CHINCHILLA agents are free: the package (ZIP) downloads from the agent page with no sign-up and no payment. Nothing is sold on this site. The agents are open under CC BY 4.0. To run them you need Claude Code — its terms and costs are set by the platform provider.
How do I download an agent?
Open the catalog, pick an agent and press “Download ZIP” on its page. No sign-up is needed. Only ready agents can be downloaded; agents “in development” have no button. 264 of 264 are ready.
What is inside an agent package?
The ZIP contains: agent.md — the agent itself (a Claude Code subagent); content.json — descriptions, platforms, limits and FAQ in 6 languages; README.md with install steps; CHANGELOG.md — version history; a tests folder — the 20 frozen test cases and the independent grading results; examples — work examples; LICENSE.md and NOTICE.md — the CC BY 4.0 licence and attribution rules.
How do I install an agent in Claude Code?
1) Unzip the downloaded ZIP. 2) Copy agent.md into the .claude/agents/ folder of your project (create the folder if it does not exist). 3) Restart Claude Code. The agent is then available in that project. Details are in README.md inside the package.
How do I use an agent after installing it?
Work in Claude Code as usual and describe your task: Claude Code brings in the agent when the task fits its description. You can also ask explicitly to use the agent by its name. Give the agent the data it needs — documents, figures, messages; it marks and asks about anything missing.
What do I need to run an agent?
You need Claude Code — the environment the agent runs in. Its terms of use, cost, limits, availability in your country and data handling are set by the platform provider; the agent itself and the download are free. No programming is needed: you only copy the agent.md file.
What agents are in the catalog?
The catalog has 264 agents in 43 sections: commerce, business and CRM, websites and design, research, mail and documents, accounting and finance, legal support, taxes and payments, utilities, housing, transport, education, shopping and services, family, safety, pets, nutrition, voice and calls, devices, and AI creation. 264 are ready to download.
How are agents tested?
Every ready agent goes through 20 frozen test cases in 6 languages (Russian, English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese): everyday tasks, hard cases and manipulation attempts. The answers are graded by an independent reviewer against criteria set in advance. The report with each case and its result is published on the agent page. Results apply to a specific version and test date.
Which languages do the agents support?
The agents are built for 6 languages and markets: Russian, English, French, Spanish, Arabic and Chinese. An agent answers in the language of your request and takes local platforms and rules into account, marking legal and tax rules as items to check. The site and this chat also work in 6 languages.
Is it safe? What happens to my data?
A downloaded agent runs in your Claude Code and uses only the data you give it; CHINCHILLA does not receive that data. Data handling on the platform is set by its provider. The agents do not ask for passwords, codes or card numbers and warn about scams. This chat does not store conversations — only anonymous counts of questions per topic.
Can I rely on an agent like on a lawyer or an accountant?
No. Agent outputs are drafts — check them before you use them. They are not legal, tax, accounting, medical, veterinary or financial advice and do not replace a professional. Markers such as “check” or “confirm” mean the information has not been verified — check it against an official source. If life, health or property is at risk, call the emergency services.
What licence do the agents have?
Agent packages are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0). You may copy, adapt and share the agents, including for commercial purposes, as long as you give attribution: “© CHINCHILLA — chinchilla.quest” and a link to the licence. The agents are provided “as is”, without warranties. The CHINCHILLA name and logo are not covered by the licence.
How do I give attribution?
When you share an agent (changed or not), state: the agent’s name, its CHINCHILLA number and id, and the version; the line “© CHINCHILLA — chinchilla.quest” with the link https://chinchilla.quest; the licence “CC BY 4.0” with the link https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/; and what you changed (or “no changes”). A ready template is in the package’s README.md and NOTICE.md. Do not remove an existing attribution line from the files.
Can I use the agents commercially?
Yes. CC BY 4.0 allows commercial use: you may use the agents in your business, adapt them, build them into your products and services, use them for clients and share them, including for a fee — as long as you give attribution “© CHINCHILLA — chinchilla.quest” with a link to the licence. The CHINCHILLA name and logo may not be used in the names of your products.
May I use the CHINCHILLA name and logo?
No. The CHINCHILLA name, logo and other project marks are not licensed under CC BY 4.0. Do not use them in the names of derived agents, products, services or domains, or in a way that suggests CHINCHILLA endorses your version or works with you. A truthful credit such as “based on a CHINCHILLA agent” is allowed and required.
How can I contact the CHINCHILLA team?
Write through the contact form on the home page: describe your task or question and give your email — the reply goes there. This chat does not collect contacts or store conversations.
Is there an academy or training?
The CHINCHILLA academy is being prepared and is coming soon to the site. Meanwhile you can download the agents for free and look at the work examples and test cases in the packages.
Do you help with implementation or build custom agents?
Consulting and implementation help are being prepared and are coming soon. Right now there is the free “AI Agent Builder” agent, which helps you specify a new agent. For a question to the team, use the contact form.
What does “in development” mean?
The “in development” status means the agent has not yet passed the independent review on 20 test cases, so it cannot be downloaded: the download button appears after the review. In development now: 0 of 264. Meanwhile you can pick the nearest ready agent or the “AI Orchestra”.
I need people, not AI
See the People section (HUMAN — specialists for on-site work) and the Hybrid section (people together with agents). You can describe your task through the contact form on the home page.
What is the “AI Orchestra”?
It is agent №125: it breaks a complex task into parts and assembles a team from other CHINCHILLA agents — who does what, in what order and what is handed over. It helps when a task spans several areas or when it is unclear which specialist fits. It is also a free download.
How do I get agent updates?
The version number is on the agent page and in the package’s README.md; changes are listed in CHANGELOG.md. To update, download the ZIP again from the agent page and replace agent.md in the .claude/agents/ folder.
Do the agents work with ChatGPT or other AI tools?
The packages are built and tested for Claude Code. The agent.md file is a Markdown instruction, but the agents have not been tested on other platforms, so we cannot vouch for the results there.
What is CHINCHILLA?
CHINCHILLA is an open catalog of AI agents for Claude Code: 264 specialists for everyday and work tasks — from complaints and taxes to family budgets and smart homes. Every ready agent is tested on 20 cases in 6 languages and is a free download under CC BY 4.0.
Are you an AI? Who am I talking to?
I am the catalog helper: I reply with ready texts from the FAQ and find agents using the catalog descriptions. No language model is used here, so I cannot hold a free conversation. If there is no answer, write to the team through the contact form.
